What is National Public Health Week?

National Public Health Week was established by the American Public Health Association (APHA) to celebrate the successes in public health and ensure a national commitment to strengthening public health efforts.  Each year, the week provides an opportunity to highlight the critical role of public health in systematic changes, science, and community partnerships.

National Public Health Week also serves as an opportunity to bring attention to emerging public health issues, share innovative solutions, make positive change, and encourage collaboration among professionals, organizations, and communities. Through education, advocacy, and engagement, National Public Health Week helps strengthen awareness of the impact public health has on the health and safety of individuals and communities across the country.

We would love to hear from you!

MPHA is seeking Board nominees for the 2026-2028 term:

What MPHA is Doing for National Public Health Week

To align with the APHA’s 2026 National Public Health Week theme, “Ready. Set. Action!”, the Michigan Public Health Association will highlight the important work being done across the state to advance public health. Throughout the week, MPHA will publish daily written pieces showcasing Michigan’s public health achievements, initiatives, and ongoing efforts to address key health challenges.

Each section and committee will share highlights, initiatives, and resources, giving members a chance to learn, engage, and connect with colleagues across disciplines. Following National Public Health Week, we will close the week with a summary reflection and celebration of all the contributions that make public health in Michigan so impactful.
