
Board Elections and Nominations
The Michigan Public Health Association (MPHA) seeks nominees for the following positions for the 2026-2028 term. All nominees must be active MPHA members.
Directors-at-large: Three positions will be filled to serve on the Board of Directors:
- Directors-at-large are elected for two-year terms (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2028).
- Three individuals will be elected in 2026.
- Per MPHA Bylaws, directors-at-large may run for up to three consecutive terms.
- Directors-at-large are voting members of the MPHA Board.
- Have a say in MPHA board decisions and make your voice count!
- Enhance or continue your leadership skills by serving on an MPHA committee (Awards, Bylaws, Public Policy & Legislation, Membership, Marketing & Communications, Program).
The Nominations and Elections Committee:
- One member will be elected to serve a two-year term (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2028).
- One Chair will be elected to serve a two-year term (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2028).
- Candidates for Chair should have been a member of MPHA for at least one full year.
- Ideal candidates for the Chair will have previously served on the Nominations and Elections committee, or in another leadership role in MPHA ,for at least one year.
- Have a voice in the candidate selection process for MPHA.
- This committee follows the MPHA bylaws to conduct the business of supporting the elections for MPHA board of director positions.

MPHA seeks Board of Directors nominees who can provide leadership that supports the mission and vision of our work and our partnership with the American Public Health Association.
Nominees will be assessed on their commitment to the organization’s vision and mission; their capacity to serve; availability; commitment to public health and the professional advancement of fellow MPHA members; and their ability to fulfill the duties of the role.
Time Commitment
Elected Board of Director members must be prepared to attend monthly meetings, currently held virtually on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., plus any additional meetings, calls, or events necessary to fulfill the role’s expectations. The MPHA president shall appoint each director-at-large to serve as a member and a liaison to a standing committee. Standing committees meet on a regular basis to conduct organization work. The standing committees include Awards, Bylaws, Public Policy & Legislation, Membership, Marketing & Communications, Program.
The Nominations and Elections Committee meets via conference calls or virtually to prepare the slate of nominees. The main work of the committee occurs January through June.

To submit a nomination, please complete the Consent to Serve form below by March 6, 2026, and return it to Sarah Nechuta (nechutas@gvsu.edu). You are encouraged to nominate yourself and/or any qualified colleagues.
