Ready, Set, Action: Celebrating Public Health in Michigan
Marcia Mastracci Ditmyer

As we kick off National Public Health Week, it’s the perfect time to recognize the vital role public health plays in Michigan and across the nation. From protecting communities during health emergencies to promoting wellness every day, public health is at the heart of a thriving, resilient society.
Michigan has a long history of public health innovation. Our state has been a leader in initiatives ranging from vaccination programs and maternal-child health services to environmental health protections and behavioral health workforce development. Agencies, local health departments, universities, and community partners work together to ensure every Michigander has access to the information, services, and support needed to live a healthy life.
Why does public health matter now more than ever? The past several years have highlighted both the challenges and the power of coordinated public health efforts. From combating infectious disease outbreaks to addressing chronic health disparities, public health professionals are at the frontlines protecting communities, improving quality of life, and advancing health equity.
